Infection

Infection, especially bacterial, causes fever and increased activity in the body that may have a harmful effect on heart muscle function and can cause your symptoms to get worse, frequently leading to hospitalisation. The most common infection in people with heart failure occurs in the lungs (pneumonia) and may make shortness of breath worse.
