Heart failure and diabetes are frequent companions. Up to one-third of people with heart failure may have some degree of diabetes that may be controlled by diet, medicines or insulin. It is important that people with heart failure maintain good control of blood sugars. Elevated levels will also have direct and indirect harmful effects on heart function.

It is especially important for people with both diabetes and heart failure to carefully follow the advice of their doctor, nurse and dietician.
