Diabetes occurs because your body can't use glucose properly, either due to a lack of the hormone insulin, or because the insulin produced doesn't work properly.

Diabetes puts extra strain on your heart, increasing your risk of heart failure. People with diabetes tend to be overweight and have high blood pressure and high cholesterol, which also increase the risk of developing heart failure.
