Abnormal heart rhythm

A change in the rhythm of your heart can cause it to beat too fast, too slow or irregularly. This can affect your heart's ability to pump enough blood to meet your body's needs. If this is prolonged it can result in heart failure.

Most abnormal heart rhythms can be treated with medicines. In more serious cases, you may require a medical device, radiofrequency ablation or surgery. If you have any concerns about your heart rhythm you should discuss them with your doctor.
