The thyroid gland is responsible for controlling your body's use of energy. An overactive thyroid (or hyperthyroidism) increases the use of energy in your body, making it work faster. This, in turn, makes your heart work harder and so can cause heart failure.
There are several treatments for hyperthyroidism. If your doctor diagnoses this condition, he or she may discuss treatment options for reducing the actions of your thyroid gland.
